Blitz Chess (5 minute) Night ! Touch Move

I had expected a flood of comments regarding the proposed Touch move rules for the
Blitz championship. But perhaps our players have been watching the videos from the recent World Blitz Championship in Moscow, or the BNbank Blitz Norway tournament.

So elegant !

Half the time people didn't even notice what their opponents were doing. I touched the wrong piece 3 times in one game and my opponent said nothing.

Shame on you. Maybe your opponents were good sportsmen. It's a journey.

I like the use of the touch move rule. Only thing I don't like is that you can no longer try for adjacent-king-cheapos in time trouble, and as a man who has proudly won a game with KxK!, it is a sneaky resource I will miss.

The Armageddon rules were great. Based on how split the opinion on which side was better, I'd say 5:4 time odds is about the right balance.

So the tournament is over now. Since this tournament was based upon "Montreal Rules", I guess next time we can now say that the tournament will be based upon "Winnipeg Rules".

Right but it goes along with my original complaint, only a handful of people are good enough at over-the-board blitz (in a tournament setting) to catch touch move errors and other rule violations.

I know it is a journey but I think that we are adding too much to the soup. People play confusingly enough without having to worry about touch move.

However, for the sake of peace and evolution of the club I'll leave it at that and say I support the change.

Well, the chess games used "Montreal Rules", but the tournament format was "Element 5 Format", borrowing /modifying mashingup World Championships formats, and other tournament elements.
