Obituary from the Winnipeg Free Press
Nigel has posted some games at chesstalk.
Michael Yip has picked up some of that material and posted at his blog http://canadachessnews.blogspot.hu/
David last played in the 2007 Abe Yanofsky Memorial - several pictures and news here.
He finished in a tie for second, his final CFC rating is 2264.
His CFC record since 1996 is here.
He had a very impressive FIDE rating of 2275.
He played in three tournaments in the US in the late nineties - I recall seeing him at the Governor's Cup.

Found this in the January 1988 issue of the 'Manitoba Chess Association Newsletter':
Mark Wasney has sent along some scans from a 1996 issue of Exclam ! , which details David's legendary performance at the Glacier Vending Tournament in Minnesota:

Tragic news.
Dave was a genuinely nice guy. Never arrogant, always humble. He was a strong player and generous with his ideas, always willing to discuss and engage.
I'll miss him.
